What is the importance of the operating system?

Operating System work as a bridge between hardware and software. The computer itself does not have any existence. This is only the collection of hardware like CPU, Monitor, and keyboard, etc. 

What is the OS? What are Features of OS?

The operating system stabilizes the connection between all the hardware. Because of, the operating system user won't care about all the parts of the computer. Operating system helps to operate the whole device according to the user inputs, that is why the user can work without any tension or stress.

Operating System distributed and manages all the resources on the computer. It has some different useful parts which are managed by central Processing Unit.

For example Printing machine which prints some documents, at the same time Central processor sends the information to the operating system to work for a further task and central processing unit itself work on another input.

Instead of this, rename the file, change the directory, change the subject of the directory, etc. done by the operating system.

Following task is done by the operating system:

File management:

Creation of file, deletion and move file from one place to another place, maintain the file in a proper place, etc.

Process:

Distribute in memory for program and data and start the process and finish it to take information from the user's and process it according to the user and send for output in the user dashboard, etc.

Input/Output:

It is a mediator between monitor and printer and read from different devices and write to output devices. Ex: keyboard input and monitor output, OS will take care of it.
